Signs of Fall: Boardwalk Biking Extended, Parking Meters To Go Idle

What's new with Boardwalk biking, parking meters, guarded beaches, dogs on the beach and more.

The official first day of fall came on Friday (Sept. 23), and that serves as a rough benchmark for the start of "winter rules."

While the weather gets rougher from here on out, the restrictions get easier:

  • Boardwalk Biking: Bicycles are allowed on the Boardwalk now at any time of day—except Saturdays through Oct. 8 (Block Party Weekend). Bicycles must leave the Boardwalk by noon on (Saturdays) Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. Restrictions will also exist for special events such as the Corvette Show on Sunday, Sept. 25, and the Sunday, Oct. 9 (Block Party Weekend).
  • Parking Meters: Parking meters will be active throughout Ocean City through Oct. 1. After that, all meters will be deactivated until May 1.
  • Ocean City Beach Patrol: The ocean water temperature is still hovering around 70 degrees, but lifeguard protection is done for the season. The Ocean City Beach Patrol finished with the weekend of Sept. 17-18.
  • Dogs on the Beach: Dogs on a leash are permitted on the beach from Oct. 1 through April 30. Owners must clean up after their pets.
  • Trash and Recycling Collection: The winter trash and recycling collection schedule is in effect as follows: Monday is south side of 34th to 59th Streets; Tuesday is south side of 17th to north side of 34th Streets; Wednesday is south side of 9th to north side of 17th Streets; Thursday is south side of 3rd to north side of 9th Streets; Friday is Longport Bridge to north side of 3rd Streets.
  • Route 52: The causeway leading to and from Ninth Street will remain in a one-lane-in-each-direction pattern until the roadway construction project is completed in May 2012.
