Souls4Soles Opens New Burlington County Donation Facility

A Nashville based non-profit that collects donations of new and gently worn shoes is opening a new facility in Burlington County. Soles4Souls’ message is shoes New Jersey residents no longer want can help create sustainable jobs many in developing nations need.

Used and new shoes can now be dropped off by appointment at 1025 U.S. 206, Bordentown, NJ, 08505, the company announced this week. This new facility, in addition to Soles4Souls’ warehouse in Franklin, now collects used shoes to help the organization keep unwanted textiles out of landfills while creating meaningful opportunities for those living in poverty.

Shoes collected at this new donation site will be distributed to Soles4Souls’ micro-enterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras and other developing nations. The resulting revenue will help fund the free distribution of new shoes in the U.S., Canada and developing nations around the world. Through its disaster relief, small business and direct assistance programs, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 30 million pairs of new and used shoes in 127 countries since 2006.

“We are so excited to expand our presence here in Burlington County,” Soles4Souls local Regional Donation Center Manager Lizzy Swiderski said. “Just one pair of used shoes sold by an entrepreneur in Haiti can provide five meals for a family, and 20 pairs can generate enough funds to send a child to school for an entire year in Honduras.”

The World Bank estimates that about 900 million people, 400 million of which are children, live on less than $1.90 per day. Millions of these children don’t have access to adequate footwear resulting in significant ramifications for their health and well-being. Meanwhile many adults don’t have access to sustainable employment.

“Every pair of shoes we receive truly makes a difference,” Swiderski said. “This new drop-off location will allow us to collect much more product and ultimately provide relief to more people in need.”
