Tornado Warning In South Jersey

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was identified in South Jersey on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The watch was declared at 7:04 p.m. and was in effect until 7:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning, meanwhile, was declared for parts of Monmouth County. That warning was set to expire at 8 p.m. The storm was capable of producing 60-mph wind gusts.

The severe thunderstorm warning was declared for northeastern Monmouth County in central New Jersey around 7:30 p.m. A severe thunderstorm was located over East Freehold, or 14 miles west of Asbury Park, moving northeast at 15 mph.

With as many as two inches of rain falling in the area, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Chatsworth in eastern Burlington County, or 24 miles southwest of Toms River, around 7 a.m. The storm was moving east at 20 mph.

In such a situation, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles could occur. Tree damage is likely, according to the National Weather Service.
