What's Happening in Ocean City: Jan. 13, 2016

Ocean City, NJ -- The following is a list of upcoming events in Ocean City, courtesy Public Relations Director Mark Soifer:

(Jan. 20) Chanteuse Concert: This women’s quartet will perform at 7 p.m. in the Ocean City Free Public Library’s Chris Maloney Lecture Hall. Admission is free.

The group is directed by Robert Snodgrass, a noted choral director at many New Jersey High Schools. The group’s repertoire features such standards as the Beatles “Yesterday”, Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and the McGuire Sisters “Sincerely,” plus English folk songs and a gospel favorite “I am His Child,” by Moses Hogan.”

Accompanist is Dianna Donat, an accomplished pianist. Singers include Jennifer Kramm-Rowe and Leslie Clarke, soprano; Christine Sauer and Anne Beckert, Alto. All four sing with the Masterworks Choir and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church Senior Choir.

(Jan. 23) The Ocean City Public Library, 17 and Simpson Avenue, presents Mission Impossible, Rouge Nation, as part of its Saturday Afternoon Movie Series, 2 p.m. in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall.

(Jan. 24) The South Jersey Jazz Society and Michael Pedicin present Four Bassists at Play, 2 p.m. in the Chris Maloney Auditorium of the Ocean City Free Public Library. The program features Andy Lalasis and three other musicians playing original and inspiring music on acoustic, electric and synthesized instruments.

(Jan. 30) The Library offers a free cooking class to celebrate National Croissant Day at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Senior Room Kitchen. Other programs include Chess and Bridge Clubs, Meditation Workshops, TED Talks, Book Discussions, Bay Atlantic Symphony Lectures, Learn to Play Mah-jongg and AARP Driving Classes. (Through January) The Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Avenue, is showing the work of Carla Migliaccio, a talented Ocean City artist. The Ocean City Fine Arts League, 608 Asbury Avenue, is featuring the best entries of its 2015 shows during January.

Both Centers offer art classes and art for sale by outstanding area artists and photographers. The Ocean City Arts Center holds classes in sculpting, Tai Chi, dancing and runs summer art camps in addition to painting and sketching sessions.
