Ocean City Road Work Affected by Shutdown As of Friday

Ocean City, NJ -- Gov. Chris Christie is playing hardball with the New Jersey Legislature, and is vowing to go through with a planned shutdown of all roadwork projects in the state starting Friday, after the Senate refused his proposal to raise the state’s gas tax.

How will this affect you?

Four projects in Ocean City will be put on hold, including:

• A $172,000 reconstruction project on 31st, 32nd and 33rd streets in Ocean City, funded by a 2014 state grant;
• $175,000 in improvements to 16th Street, funded by a 2015 grant;
• A $62,480 airport obstruction removal project, funded by a TTF Aeronautics Project Grant; and
• The $257,684 Route 52 Causeway-Wetland Remediation

None of the projects are currently under construction, so there will be no immediate impact, according to Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen.

Also, bridge and tunnel maintenance work will be suspended statewide. All federally funded work, or projects necessary for safety reasons will continue, Christie said.
