Woman Badly Burned In Boat Fire In Wildwood

A woman was badly burned in a Jersey Shore boat fire on Wednesday, police said. The woman was airlifted to a hospital after apparently jumping from the burning boat. A video showed the scene (see below).

The woman was found around 1:55 p.m., when the Wildwood City Fire Department’s Squad Co. 3 was dispatched to the area of 5100 Lake Rd. on a report of a boat fire in a marina, fire officials said.

Police arrived on scene and saw that the burning boat was dry-docked in a lot in the 400 west block of Leaming Ave.

Upon arrival, units found a woman who appeared to have jumped from the burning boat suffering from significant burns to both of her legs, fire officials said.

Emergency personnel requested and medic unit and a helicopter for the burn victim, who was treated and flown to Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

The fire engulfed two adjacent boats and a neighboring dwelling. Only minor interior damage was sustained in the building.

Units remained on scene assisting the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office with the investigation until 4:43 p.m. hours. The cause is still under investigation at this time.
