Youngsters Brave The Heat To Win Free Bikes At Ocean City Fishing Tournament

The tournament was on the North End Beach on Saturday.

Ocean City, NJ -- Two Pennsylvania youngsters overcame the oppressive heat and humidity to win two brand new Huffy bicycles in Ocean City this weekend.

Heather Ellis, 9, of Penndel, PA, was the winning girl, reeling in 11 ¾-inch kingfish during the 41st annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing tournament Saturday morning.

Chris Murray, 13, of Broomall, PA, was the big winner in the boys division, hooking a 14-inch flounder during the two-hour competition on the North End Beach.

A total of 85 youngsters braved the heat to compete for the top prizes. They captured a total of 66 fish.
Ellis also tied with Alexis Erazmus, 12, of Yardley, PA, for the girls trophy for the most fish.

William Daley, 9, of Linwood, NJ, took home the boys trophy for catching the most fish.

The club offers the free event each year to kids between the ages of 8 and 16. During the tournament, club members measure and record each fish caught.

Club secretary Margaret Feil, of Ocean View, was in charge of registration and tabulating the results. Ralph Miller, of Ocean City and West Chester, PA, was the event chairman.

The club also sponsors the annual Ocean City Invitational Surf Fishing tournament for adult teams and individuals. The 49th edition of that tournament takes place on Saturday, Oct. 22.
