11-Year-Old Girl Struck Near Paramus Middle School: Police

Girl was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in stable condition.

An 11-year-old Paramus girl is in serious but stable condition after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near East Brook Middle School, police said.

The girl was struck walking west at the crosswalk between Paramus High School and East Brook Middle School Spring Valley Road shortly before 3 p.m., police said.

As the girl started to cross the street she was struck by a brown 2014 Hyundai Sonata headed north driven by Janis Vahanian, 60 of Paramus, police said.

There was a Paramus school crossing guard in the intersection controlling traffic when the collision occurred, police said.

The girl was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center by Paramus emergency medical personnel where she was in serious but stable condition Tuesday night, police said.

Officers from the Paramus Police Department’s Police Traffic Safety Unit and detectives from the department are investigating the incident.
