67 Dogs Rescued From Van Not Available For Adoption
Dogs are under the care of an animal control company. They were found in a 38-degree van outside the Just Pups in Paramus Monday morning.
PARAMUS, N.J. - The 67 small dogs and puppies found in near-freezing temperatures inside a van outside of Just Pups pet store are not available for adoption, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
Paramus police found the dogs while on routine patrol in the parking lot on Route 17 South at 3 a.m. Monday, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.
Police said the dogs were crammed into cages and covered in urine and feces, police said. Some were did not have food or water. The temperature inside the van was just 38 degrees, only a few degrees warmer than the outside temperature, the chief said.

The animals were taken to the Oradell Animal Hospital and were evaluated and treated.

Tyco will continue to care for the animals while the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Paramus Police Department investigate allegations of animal cruelty against the store's owner, Vincent LoSacco.

LoSacco denied doing anything wrong. He said transports and keeps animals in the van regularly and complies with all rules set forth by the federal Department of Agriculture.
Tyco Animal Control, the company that handles the animal control responsibilities for several Bergen County municipalities, is caring the animals, Grewal said.
Grewal commended Ehrenberg and the Paramus Police Department for their "terrific police work" in the case.
