BCA Student Named Finalist in Neuroscience Research Competition
BCA Student from Woodcliff Lake is a Finalist in Neuroscience Research Competition

December 12, 2017- Hackensack, NJ – Varun Kumar, a Bergen County Academies Junior from Woodcliff Lake has been selected as a finalist for the Neuroscience Research Prize by the American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology Society. Varun’s research focuses on treating glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer where over time, the tumor becomes immune to the treatment. Varun’s discovery may lead to the ability to reverse this resistance thereby making treatment more effective.
According to the AAN website, all entries are reviewed by a panel of physicians and scientists who are actively engaged in neuroscience research at academic institutions throughout the US. Four prize winners will be selected through two rounds of competition. The four winners will each receive a $1,000 prize. Three winners and their teachers will receive airfare, two nights hotel, $100 per day for expenses (up to two days), and the opportunity to present their work during a scientific poster session at the AAN 70th Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA — the world’s largest gathering of neurologists. One winner and his/her teacher will receive airfare, three nights hotel, a daily per diem (up to three days), and the opportunity to present his/her work at the 2018 Child Neurology Society Annual Meeting.
Projects are evaluated based on relevance to Neuroscience, creativity, interpretation of data, and overall quality of the research report.
