Bergen County Tech Schools Shift To Remote Learning Until 2021
After students and staff tested positive for the coronavirus, the district announced remote learning will be instituted until Jan. 15, 2021.
PARAMUS, NJ — In-person learning began at Bergen County Technical Schools on Oct. 19, but, as of this week, it is done for the year.
Superintendent Howard Lerner announced in a letter to parents that, following positive COVID-19 tests of students and staff, the district would shift to remote learning until Jan. 15, 2021.
According to NJ.com, cases at two of the four high school campuses caused more than 20 students and 10 staff members to quarantine.

The decision to close school buildings was also done in part to quell the spread of the virus to multiple cities and towns across Bergen County, according to Lerner.
"Our district is unique in that we receive students from every town in the county, and we send those students back home to each of those towns at the end of the day," said Lerner.

"Our operational decisions can impact public health in every corner of Bergen County at a time when COVID-19 infection and transmission rates are rising in Bergen and in much of New Jersey."
As a result of the school closure, all athletic events have also been suspended indefinitely.
