Bergen Regional Medical Center Honors Benefactors

John Cosgrove and Lucille A. Joel receive award

honored John Cosgrove and Lucille A. Joel with the 2012 Bergen Benefactor Award. Cosgrove and Joel received their honors at a dinner at Seasons in Washington Township on March 12. 

The Bergen Benefactor Award is an annual recognition of individuals who have enabled Bergen Regional Medical Center to continue its mission to educate the community about health issues, support educational programs for caregivers and improve the quality of life for those served by the hospital. 

“John and Lucille are wonderful examples of how community members can help improve our county through volunteer work and we’re lucky to have such tireless advocates for public health programs working to strengthen the Bergen County community,” BRMC President Joseph Orlando said.

John Cosgrove, a lifelong resident of Fair Lawn, is Chairman of the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center. He is an active community volunteer having served as a coach for baseball, street hockey, softball and lacrosse and is the founder and former president of both the Fair Lawn Lacrosse Club and the Fair Lawn Touchdown Club. John is also a Fair Lawn Councilman and serves as the town’s Deputy Mayor. 

Lucille A. Joel is a community, government and healthcare leader who has years of service to Bergen Regional Medical Center. She is an original and continuing member of the Community Oversight Board of Bergen Regional Medical Center, the current chair of the Long Term Care Quality Monitoring Committee and a trustee of the Foundation. Lucille is also a Professor at Rutgers—the State University of New Jersey College of Nursing and the former President for the American Nurses Association and the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
 
“We’re thankful for all the time and effort Lucille and John have given over the years to enhance the wellbeing of Bergen County residents and we’re glad to have this opportunity to acknowledge their work with the Bergen Benefactor Award,” said BRMC Chief Operating Officer and Administrator Susan Mendelowitz.
