Borough to Honor Residents on Active Duty with Blue Star Banners

Accepting donations for Blue Star Banners

A Borough Councilman announced a new program to honor Paramus residents serving in the armed forces this month.

Councilman Alan Brundage, the liaison to veterans organizations in town, said Paramus would honor enlisted residents with Blue Star Banners.

The banner, the traditional way of honoring active members of the armed forces, is made of satin with gold fringe, a crossbar with gilt spears and gold hanging cords. Each banner will be embroidered with the name of the resident and the branch they are serving in a combat zone overseas.

Each banner will hang on a wall near the entrance to Borough Hall, and another will be presented to the resident when they return home, Brundage said.

Brundage said a trust account has been set up to accept donations for the project.
