Drone Piloting Class Takes Off At Bergen Community College

The class is taught by a 25-year United Airlines pilot.

PARAMUS, N.J. — Bergen Community College will offer an information session on its drone class, which launched in December.

The session will be Feb. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Technology Information Center on its Paramus campus at 400 Paramus Road.

The two-part class offers students a path to obtaining a remote pilot's license from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is necessary to operate drones. Scott Strimple, a United Airlines pilot for 25 years and experienced drone operator, teaches the course.

The class includes FAA exam preparation and hands-on flying experience after students pass a written exam.

The FAA allowed the college to operate drones on campus, just one of three community colleges to receive such an exemption.
