Eight Officers to Receive Promotions

Chief says hiring could come next

The Council voted to confirm nominations to promote eight members of the at its Tuesday meeting, a move Chief Christopher Brock said would reduce overtime costs for the department.

"This is a huge step in providing supervisory coverage for the department," Brock said.

Three patrol officers and one detective will be promoted to sergeant, three sergeants will be promoted to patrol lieutenants and Patrol Lt. Brian Goggin will be promoted to Captain. While the promotions will reduce the number of patrol officers on Paramus streets, Brock said the Council had authorized him to begin the process of hiring more officers, though he didn't specify how many.

Manpower at the police department is at its lowest level in decades, as a spate of retirements and a lack of hires since 2009 have .
