PARAMUS, N.J. — A man crashed through a locked gate and fence and hit several vehicles at a car dealership while police chased him on Route 17 Wednesday afternoon.

It was the second car chase police were involved in Wednesday.

Paramus Police Officer Thomas Holden saw a black 2011 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Nicholas Vizzone, 24, of Roseland who was wanted by Oakland Police for reckless endangerment, eluding, and criminal mischief, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

The Jetta hit three Paramus Honda vehicles and then rammed two Paramus Police cars, significantly damaging one of them. One officer suffered neck and back injuries and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment, the chief said.

Vizzone then drove through a chain-link fence and locked gate back onto Pleasant Avenue and then onto Passaic Street in Hackensack. Hackensack Police and New Jersey State Police troopers followed Vizzone onto the New Jersey Turnpike, Ehrenberg said.

Vizzone then hit another car and was arrested by state police and East Rutherford Police officers, the chief said.

Vizzone was charged with reckless endangerment, eluding police with a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and violating his parole, police said. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail without bail pending a court appearance.

It was the second car chase Paramus Police engaged in Wednesday. Two Paterson men led police across three North Jersey highways that ended with their car spinning out on Route 80 and them ramming a police car.
