Paramus Catholic Alumni Mourn The Loss Of Star Football Player

BREAKING: Mike Devenio, 24, was killed in a four-car crash near MetLife Stadium Sunday, police said.

PARAMUS, N.J. — Alumni and friends of Mike Devenio, 24, the former Paramus Catholic football star who was killed in the four-car crash on Route 3 near MetLife Stadium Sunday, expressed their grief over the loss of the former Paladin on social media.

A post on the Paramus Catholic Football Alumni Facebook page stated that Devenio was a "dedicated" player. He was a 2010 graduate of Paramus Catholic.

Devenio, of Lyndhurst, was a top football player at Paramus Catholic who made league second-team as a wide receiver and went on to play the position at Western New England University.

A post on the Paramus Catholic Alumni Facebook page also offered a note of condolence: "The PC alumni family would like to send its sincere condolences to the family of Mike DeVenio '10. He was a beloved member of the PC family. May God rest his soul in peace."

Devenio's best friend, Jonathan Jasinski, created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Devenio's funeral. More than $11,000 had been donated as of Monday afternoon.


Devenio was a salesman at Mazda of Lodi, NJ.com reported.

Police said that four others were injured in the four-car crash, which occurred when the vehicles collided about 3:19 a.m. on Route 3 East near MetLife Stadium. Three of the people suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital, police said.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
