Paramus DPW Worker Tried Jumping Out Of The Way During Hit-And-Run: Police

The 30-year-old was collecting garbage on Forest Avenue when he was hit by a Honda, police said.

PARAMUS, NJ — A borough Department of Public Works employee suffered a broken ankle and foot after he was struck by a vehicle while collecting garage Friday morning, police said.

The 30-year-old man was picking up garbage near 227 Forest Ave. when a grey- or silver-colored Honda heading south hit him, said Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

The DPW truck the man was on had several warning lights that were on when he was hit, police said.

The man saw the Honda coming and tried to jump on the truck to avoid it, but was hit, police said. The vehicle fled the area south on Forest Avenue without stopping.

The man was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by Paramus EMS personnel, police said.

The Honda is a possible early-2000s model.
