High School Football Player In Bergen County Dies Of Rare Disorder, Fundraiser Started

A Bergen County high school student has passed away at 17. A fundraiser was launched for his family.

PARAMUS, NJ — A fundraiser has been launched for a Paramus High School football player who died recently of a rare disorder.

Waseh Sultani, 17, died of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, an inflammatory syndrome, according to the fundraiser.

He "courageously battled this devastating illness, spending weeks in and out of the hospital," the GoFundMe says. "Despite every effort, Waseh sadly passed away, leaving behind a heartbroken family who loved him deeply."

The fundraiser is for Waseh's mother, Soraya, who is raising Waseh’s siblings, Abe and Haleena, while grieving.

"No mother should have to endure this kind of loss, especially while carrying the emotional and financial burden on her own," the fundraiser says.

The Paramus football program posted over the weekend, "Paramus Football mourns the loss of our brother, Waseh Sultani. He was a great teammate, a hard worker, and someone who brought energy to our program every day."

The fundraiser had amassed more than $35,000 as of Monday. It can be found here.
