PARAMUS, N.J. — Paramus Police Detective Sgt. James Teehan received the 2017 L.E.A.D. Officer of the Year Award at the program's annual conference recently.
"Sgt. Teehan has dedicated many years helping to bring drug and bullying education to our community," the Paramus Police Department said in a Facebook post about Teehan receiving the award. "His tireless work and support has helped change the paths of many young people that he has come in contact with. The Paramus Police Department is very proud of his many accomplishments."
The Law Enforcement Against Drugs curriculum took over New Jersey's D.A.R.E. program as the state's anti-drug teaching curriculum in 2015. The new program is designed to include sensitivity training for officers on how to deal with addicts.
