• Opioid settlement spending shows need for more oversight, NJ advocates warn (newsfromthestates.com) — Paramus used $4,200 in opioid settlement money for a free awareness concert, one of many New Jersey towns funding public events rather than direct treatment or recovery services. Harm reduction advocates say such choices show why the state needs stronger oversight and transparency so settlement dollars more clearly support people directly affected by the overdose crisis.

• Shoplifting suspect flees across Route 17, into brook during Paramus police pursuit (news12.com) — Paramus police arrested a Brooklyn man Friday after he allegedly filled three rolling suitcases with nearly $2,200 in clothing at the Marshalls on Route 17 South, then ran across the highway and into Sprout Brook.
