Ridgewood G&S Presents Timeless Musical, The Pirates of Penzance, May 13-15

Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan presents the timeless musical, The Pirates of Penzance, in Ridgewood and Fair Lawn May 13-15.

The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company is performing Gilbert & Sullivan's most hilarious and upbeat musical, The Pirates of Penzance, at Fair Lawn Community Center on Friday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m.; and at Ridgewood United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, May 15, at 2:00 p.m.

The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of Frederic, a young man mistakenly indentured to a band of pirates. Frederic, upon reaching his twenty-first year, rejoices that he has fulfilled his indentures and is now free to return to respectable society and find a suitable wife, but it is not quite as simple as he thought it would be. Frederic falls in love with Mabel, one of Major-General Stanley's daughters, who is opposed to the pirates. Will Frederic turn against the pirates or help them with their kidnapping plots? Will Frederic and Mabel be allowed to wed and live happily ever after?

The musical is staged by Reegan McKenzie (Rochelle Park, NJ) and musically directed by Paul Geidel (Yonkers, NY). Performances will be supported by accompanist Laura Ravotti (Montrose, NY). The Major-General will be played by Bill Cantor (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) and Nate Kaufman (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ); Frederic will be played by Joseph Mayon (Astoria, NY) and Dennis Oliveira (Kearny, NJ); Mabel will be played by Beverly Butrie (New York, NY) and Allison Macri (Upper Saddle River, NJ); the Pirate King will be played by Matthew Haines (North Arlington, NJ) and John Holmboe (Pearl River, NY); and Ruth will be played by Eileen Karlson (Teaneck, NJ) and Francesca Stokes (Kearny, NJ). Supporting leads and an ensemble chorus round out the cast.
