Selma to Montgomery voting rights march is topic at Central Unitarian Church, March 15

Rev. David M. Horst presents "Crossing the Bridge" on Sunday morning, March 15, at 10:30 at the Central Unitarian Church in Paramus.

Rev. Horst, Minister at Central Unitarian, participated in the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Selma to Montgomery voting rights march on March 6 through 8. In his presentation, he discusses the history of this Civil Rights’ turning point, the Voting Rights Act that “Bloody Sunday” and the subsequent march instigated, and the meaning of the events in Selma now 50 years later. Many Unitarian Universalist clergy responded to Martin Luther King Jr.’s call to come to Selma in March 1965, and a member of the clergy, James Reeb, was murdered there.

Faith development and education classes for children and youth are held on Sunday mornings as well as music and worship programs. Childcare for infants and toddlers is provided.

Central Unitarian Church, Bergen County’s liberal religious community, is located at 156 Forest Ave., Paramus, about one-mile north of Route 4. Convenient parking is provided, and the building is wheelchair accessible.
