Stickley Furniture To Open Route 4 Showroom

High-end furniture manufacturer and retailer plans first New Jersey showroom

A high-end furniture manufacturer and retailer plans to open a showroom in Paramus by Labor Day.

Stickley Furniture, based in Manlius, N.Y., closed on a 22,000 square foot property at 55 Route 4 on Feb. 8.

Stickley plans to renovate the existing building, formerly home to a Levitz Furniture store, and build a new facade. The showroom would be Stickley's 15th and the first in New Jersey.

"It will be a high-end furniture showroom," Aminy Audi, CEO of Stickley, said. "That will be reflected in both the premises as well as the furniture."

The company decided to open in Paramus after Bograd's, a former Stickley dealer in Riverdale, closed. Aminy Audi, CEO of Stickley, said the planned showroom was a way of replacing Bograd's.

Audi said Bograd's already had a customer base that was loyal to Stickley products. In addition, the company can use the same advertising and delivery services they already do in the area.

"There was a void that was created in the market by having Bograd's close their store and retire," Audi said.

Audi and her husband Alfred bought Stickley in 1974, growing the company from 25 employees to 1,400. Audi said Stickley was persevering through the tough economy, crediting loyal customers for helping avert layoffs at its manufacturing facilities.

While the company set a "conservative" target of Labor Day for the Paramus opening, Audi said she would like to open sooner if possible.

"We're looking forward to being part of the community and getting to know the area well and being there for the long term," Audi said.
