Suburban Diner Expansion Plans Approved

Restaurant will add 390 square foot private room

will receive a face lift after the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved plans to renovate and expand the restaurant by 390 square feet.

Michael Siderias, the owner and operator of Suburban Diner, said the restaurant is in need of an update.

The addition to the building will take the form of a new room enclosed from the rest of the diner as a meeting and dining space for groups who want to dine privately. The addition will take place in the where wheelchair ramp and a waiting area are located now, architect Emmanual Kavrakis said.

"It will give a new function to the restaurant, allowing them the opportunity to have somewhat of a private space," Kavrakis said.

The room will seat 38 people. The diner as a whole will seat 195, one less than it does now.

The wheelchair ramp that the room will replace will move to the south side of the building, Kavrakis said. As part of the renovation, Siderias will increase the number of handicapped spaces from two to five.

The current bronze color scheme sported by the diner will be supplanted by cream, red and brown shades on the facade and new signs.

Inside, the current waiting area will be replaced by one with a bench. The plans include a fireplace and a 22-foot pastry display and cashier area.

The Board voted 6-0 to approve the changes to the restaurant.
