Veteran's Home Unveils New Room

State and local politicians attend ribbon-cutting

The 327 residents of the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home now can enjoy a variety of activities in a spacious new multi-purpose room.

The 7,942 square-foot addition was built at a cost of 2.6 million, with 65% coming from Veterans Administration funds. Before this addition, social events and ceremonies were held in the cafeteria.

Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth was one of the honored guests at a ribbon-cutting for the new room on Tuesday, along with Sen. Robert Menendez and Congressmen Scott Garrett, Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman. Local state and county politicians were also in attendance.

Menendez asked for a moment of silence for the 31 U.S. special operation troops and seven Afghan commandos who were killed recently in Afghanistan.

"Every day is a day to honor those veterans who we owe so much," Menendez said. "This multi-purpose room is one way we can do that."

"You served (your country) and deserve to be served," Pascrell said to veterans there.
