Volkswagen Beetle Catches Fire In Garden State Plaza Parking Lot

No one was injured, police said.

PARAMUS, N.J. — A Volkswagen Beetle caught fire in the Garden State Plaza parking lot Wednesday, police said.

The fire was called in at about 1:15 p.m., said Capt. Anthony Savastano. No one was in the vehicle when the fire occurred. Two Paramus fire engines responded and firefighters extinguished the blaze, Savstano said.

The car was deemed "a total loss," police said. Authorities are trying to determine what caused the fire.

Paramus Fire Chief Patrick Proctor could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.
