WEATHER: Damaging Winds Could 'Toss Halloween Decorations' As N.J. Storm Intensifies

Even where no damage occurs, the 30-mph winds could toss around trash cans and loose Halloween decorations as the storm blows through.

Damaging wind gusts moving as fast as 30 to 40 mph will hit New Jersey Wednesday and could result in some flooding and wet, slick road conditions - as well as a nasty commute, according to forecasters.

Even where no damage occurs, the winds could easily toss around trash cans and loose Halloween decorations, according to AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather for New Jersey, saying rain and flooding could be “enhanced by fallen leaves that clog storm drains.”

Locally, strong winds of 30 to 40 mph will be possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, especially with any thunderstorms or line of heavy showers. Widespread minor tidal flooding is anticipated with the high tide cycle mostly during Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall amounts will generally average around 1-2 inches across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic; however, some locations could receive even more, according to AccuWeather.

The combination of the rain and wind will create travel delays, for both motorists and airline passengers, according to forecasters.

“As the storm strengthens, so will gusty winds around the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast,” stated AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski on AccuWeather’s site. “Wind gusts of 40-60 mph threaten to cause sporadic tree damage and power outages around the eastern Great Lakes, Appalachians and the New England coast Wednesday and Wednesday night.”

Here is the forecast:

Wednesday: Showers. High near 64. Southeast wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 a.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 61. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
