BAPS Charities Health Fair in Parsippany, NJ – A Step Towards a Healthier Community
The thought of periodic health check-ups is daunting for many, however, early detection and prevention is the key to a healthier life. Nonetheless, preventable ailments such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are still largely prevalent across the United States. Recognizing early detection and prevention as vital for the well-being of communities, BAPS Charities hosted its 9th annual Health Fair in Parsippany on October 4, 2015. The Health Fair saw participation from 40 medical professionals, including specialties dentists, nurses, physicians, and specialists in the fields of Internal Medicine/Family practice, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Chiropractor and OBGYN. These professionals volunteered to provide individual consultations to over 320 community participants who benefited from various screenings offered free or at subsidized costs. Screenings included Blood pressure, Dental exam, Glaucoma screening (, Glucose Screening , Eye Exam .
In an effort to encourage preventive care and disease management health awareness lectures were also organized. These lectures provided participants with insights on High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Preventive Health, Obesity and Heart Disease .
One of the Health Fair participants, Suresh Patel said, “This is the first time I am attending a BAPS Charities Health Fair. I came here with my wife not knowing what to expect but I am very glad I came. I could see an internist, podiatrist, optometrist and a dentist — all under a single roof in just one hour. I am so happy with the one-on-one consultations I had today. This would take a lot of time and money if I had done it at a private facility.”

Dr. Darshan Godkar, who specializes in Cardiology said, “Prevention is key for a healthier community. If any disease is diagnosed and treated early we can have a completely different outcome. This is where health fairs like the one we have today can play a very important role.”
Dr. Palak Oza, who specializes in OB-Gyn, is one of 16 physicians committed to treating Women conditions. She shared, “I really enjoy volunteering at health fairs such as this where people can get consultations from multiple specialties. BAPS Charities has really streamlined this process of connecting with patients and promoting healthy living practices.”

Doctors that volunteered their time at the Health Fair came from a diverse set of local hospitals and private practices. “I was very much impressed with the turnout and the professionalism of all of the volunteers in putting together such a great community event,” said Dr.Kamal Patel. “I will definitely be back next year.”
“We are pleased to be able to provide this service and thank all the physicians, phlebotomists ns, Carol G Simon Cancer Centre who volunteered their time to make this event a success,” Tejas Patel, BAPS Charities volunteer, said.
BAPS Charities hosted similar community Health Fairs at over 40 locations across North America benefitting over 15,000 participants.
