Basement Fire In Parsippany Apartment Sparks Investigation

PARSIPPANY, NJ — An investigation has been launched after the basement of a Parsippany apartment complex caught fire this week.

On Wednesday, just after 8 p.m., authorities were called to the Knoll Gardens Apartment Complex in Lake Hiawatha on reports of a fire.

Crews arrived to discover that a crawlspace had caught fire in the basement of Building 46 of the complex.

The fire prompted an evacuation of the building, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Due to damage caused by the fire, as well as the shutdown of utilities, the building was deemed uninhabitable by officials. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the displaced residents as needed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300.

All six Parsippany Fire Districts, along with Parsippany Rescue and Recovery, Par-Troy EMS, and both Parsippany Volunteer EMS squads. The Boonton Fire Department, Whippany Fire Department, Denville Fire Department, Montville Fire Department, and Morris Plains Fire Department also lent mutual aid.
