Explosion in New Jersey: Police Probe Device In Morris County

An explosion occurred Sunday night in New Jersey, and police say they are investigating it.

The explosion happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday on Allentown Road in Parsippany-Troy Hills in Morris County, according to police.

Multiple callers contacted the Parsippany Police Department’s communication center to report hearing a possible explosion. Multiple units responded to the scene and found the remnants of a small rudimentary device located in the roadway, police said.

Parsippany Detective T. Anderson, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad, CIS and K-9, responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. No injuries were reported.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office also released a statement:

"The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was notified of an explosion within Parsippany-Troy Hills in the area of AllentownRoad and Northfield Road. The device was subsequently determined to be a beer can with an explosive substance within. The beer can detonated in the street. There were no injuries and no damage to property. It appears at this time that this is an isolated incident with no apparent threat to the community. The investigation is continuing at this time."
