Brooklawn Student Advances in Annual National Geographic Bee
Alex Zhang looks to place among top 100 statewide test-takers.

Alex Zhang went to school on Jan. 16 hoping to have a good day. He came home with an opportunity to win a $50,000 college scholarship.
Zhang, a seventh grader at Brooklawn Middle School, took first place in the building’s National Geographic Bee, which is taking place in thousands of schools across the country.
Now moving on, Zhang will take a written test. Up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will be eligible to compete in their state Bee on March 27, 2015.

State winners will then be provided an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the national championship rounds between May 11 and 13. The overall winner will receive a $50,000 scholarship, lifetime membership in the Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
