I'm a happy boy these days with the arrival of Casa D'Pizza in Denville. Located in the CVS Plaza at 276 East Main Street (Route 53), right across the street from the Denville train station, this new Italian eatery is a must try for all you fans of incredible wood oven cooked pizza and all things Italiano.
I found it interesting when in a conversation with the owner I was informed that there is a huge difference between "wood oven pizza" and "brick oven pizza". Apparently, some places will literally just put a BRICK in a regular oven and try to pass it off as something special. The difference is, that at Casa D'Pizza, your pie is cooked in a REAL wood-burning oven longingly and lovingly built brick-by-brick in the restaurant. In fact, it's the first thing you see when you walk in and it is a thing of beauty.
How good is their pizza? They've ruined me for any place else, that's how good. I will make the 20 minute drive one way for what can only be described as "Pizza Pies of Perfection". I am normally not a thin crust guy, but Casa D'Pizza has converted me. (And, I lived in New Haven, Connecticut for 10 years before moving to Parsippany, so I know a thing or two about great pizza. If you've ever visited Sally's or Pepe's on Wooster Street in New Haven, you know what I'm talking about.
My "go-to favorites" are their Buffalo Chicken Pizza and their Meat Lovers. The Buffalo Chicken is loaded with big crispy slices of chicken in an incredible Buffalo Sauce that will have you wondering how you could ever go back to plain old pepperoni. A slice of the Meat Lovers is a meal in itself. The slices are bigger than your head! All types of incredible Italian meats resting on a thick bed of crusty dough that will fill you up like you ate an entire pie instead of just one slice. And, what's great about Casa D'Pizza is they always have a number of their great pizza choices available to order by the slice, so you can pick and choose and try out all their great combinations.
But, you ask: how are the other dishes? Well, Veal Parmessan that melts in your mouth like butter. Sound good? The cheese and tomato sauce play together in unison like the music in a Verdi opera. And, just as delicious is their Chicken Francese. Lightly battered in a scintillating lemon sauce that had my wife sopping it off the plate with the last few pieces of bread. Add to these a great selection of hot and cold sandwiches, salads and sides, Casa D'Pizza has whatever you're hankering for when you're in the mood for Italian.
Not to mention, the new restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Sure, they do great take-out but this is a beautifully decorated eatery where you will want to spend a couple hours on a Saturday night with good friends and a couple of good bottles of wine.
So, forget the generic, frozen pre-made food of the Papa John's, the Domino's and the Pizza Huts of the world. When you just have to have pizza, think Casa D'Pizza in Denville!
