Central Middle School Student to Represent Parsippany at State Geography Bee

Sejal Murthy's test score high enough to put her into statewide competition.

Sejal Murthy just took one step closer to potentially winning a $50,000 college scholarship.

The Parsippany resident and Central Middle School eighth-grader has advanced to the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition after notching one of the highest scores in New Jersey on a written test.

Murthy, who won the school bee at Central in December, is one of 100 students from New Jersey who will compete against each other at Rowan University on March 27. The winner of that competition will win $100, the “National Geographic Atlas of the World, 10th Edition,” a medal, and the most coveted accolade, a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent his or her state in the National Geographic Bee Championship from May 11 to 13.
