Family Who Lost Daughter In Butler Fire 'Nothing Short Of Love'

The family lost their daughter and their home in the Tuesday night fire. Now, the community is looking to support them.

BUTLER, NJ — A family that lost their daughter and home in a fire earlier this week are "nothing short of love and happiness," an online fundraiser set up for them says.

Kathy Spagnola, 61, was killed in the late night fire that destroyed her parents' home. Now, the community is looking to help Jan and Carmine Spagnola, both in their 80s, get back on their feet.

"Their home is no longer livable. They don't have any clothes, furniture, or other belongings. For the people that know Jan and Carmine, they are the sweetest and most kind hearted people you have ever met," GoFundMe organizer Jessica Schaub wrote. So far, over $2,700 has been raised towards the $15,000 goal.

The Spagnola's home caught on fire before 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, officials said. The older Spagnola's sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Butler United Methodish church, where the Spagnolas attend, said a neighbor alerted the family to the fire.

"Most especially we are grateful to a neighbor who was passing by, saw the fire, and banged on the door to alert the Spagnolas," the church said.
