Former Cop, Parsippany Man Gets 8 Years for Robbing Morris County Bank
Harry Schnitzer spent time in jail for previous bank robberies, report says.

Harry Schnitzer spent a career putting criminals behind bars. Now he’s joining them for the next eight years.
The Parsippany resident and former Essex County Sheriff’s Lieutenant was sentenced last week to eight years in prison for robbing a Santander Bank in Boonton and threatening a teller in April 2014.
According to dailyrecord.com, Schnitzer will not be parole eligible for the first 85-percent of his sentence, more than six-and-a-half years. The sentenced was imposed, the report said, because Schnitzer is a repeat offender. He was convicted in 2006 to five years in prison for robbing three other New Jersey banks.

Schnitzer, 71, retired from his post in Essex County in 2002, the report said.
During the robbery, Schnitzer told the teller he would shoot her if money wasn’t handed over and pretended to have a weapon in his pocket. He made off with $2,750, all of which save for $250 was found during his arrest, the report said.
