Froggie the Gremlin Discovered in Lake Hiawatha. How Many are old Enough to remember froggie the Gremlin; Andy Divine ?
Is this a rare species, a frog or toad is it male or female? Habitat brings many new wonders. Cats endanger our wildlife need cat ordinance.
Today 11/5/15 at approx 1040 hours cloudy, had some previous showers was spreading some wildflower and grass seed; Northeast mixes; when this creature leaped out of the under grass or subsoil. I’d like to know if this is a new species or rare for Parsippany/Lake Hiawatha. My 40 x 140 yard space is a natural habitat, but even my neighbors said they never saw a frog or toad in this immediate area. Would appreciate some further investigation from the experts; so I’ve contacted NJDEP for further information.
He/ she is perfectly camouflaged for the surrounding, and hopefully there are more. His bottom is white. My front space gets lots of sun, and I don’t cut the grass, but only makes small paths in areas. Using special seeds of indigenous wildflowers and native grasses has brought more butterflies, songbirds and other mysterious insect creatures. When I purchased the home the yard both front & back were covered with crab grass. Nature does the work all is required is a gardener. The use of companion flowers and grasses brings rewards and a pleasant place for others besides ourselves. It also a good rain garden, helping to put water back in the ground. If I find out anything about my new friend I’ll let you know... As a kid I had a pet toad named Alan Shepard after America’s first astronaut; he lived in my hat and we used to hangout together and he moved my hat around and people would be awed. In another episode in my life i actually met the real ; so I believed Froggy the Gremlin in real life and he wasn’t rubber either. If this is a new species it will have to be named no doubt, but let’s wait for that.
Brings us to the cat problem in Lake Hiawatha, cats endangered critters like this and songbirds especially. Next to loss of habitat domestic cats are the biggest reason our songs birds are disappearing. Parsippany should consider a cat license ordinance. Responsible pet owners should not let their cats loose. They kill birds and return home for their friskies. Too many cats like in Knoll Gardens even bring fleas. Cats can even carry rabies.
