Prices at New Jersey pumps hit a record average of $5.06 per gallon of unleaded gas on June 13, according to AAA. The cost to fuel up gradually fell through the summer, hitting a $3.56 average one month ago. But the state figure now totals $3.69 per gallon as of Friday.

New Jerseyans have some reason for optimism, since the national average for regular gas costs fell last week for the first time in a month, according to GasBuddy.
