MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Coronavirus hospitalizations have increased throughout New Jersey. The Garden State surpassed 1,000 inpatients with COVID-19 this week for the first time since May. The New Jersey Department of Health reported 1,022 hospitalizations as of Friday afternoon — more than triple July 1's total of 306.

But what about the spread of the virus in Morris County? See town-by-town statistics below.

Some states have reported full ICUs, but Morris County's still have room. The Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains has 76.92 percent of ICU beds available, Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville has 71.79 percent unoccupied and Morristown Medical Center has 33.95 percent ready, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Meanwhile, Morris County's COVID-19 activity remains "moderate," according to the New Jersey Department of Health's latest weekly report. The area has averaged 70.3 new cases per day over the past week, according to the state health department, after reporting several single-digit case days in late June and early July.

Here's how much cases have increased in each Morris County town, according to county data (statistics show new infections from Aug. 18 to Friday; totals reflect the number of cases reported since the pandemic began):

  • Boonton: 17 new cases, 842 total, 2.06 percent increase
  • Boonton Township: seven new cases, 521 total, 1.36 percent increase
  • Butler: 14 new cases, 764 total, 1.87 percent increase
  • Chatham Borough: 10 new cases, 434 total, 2.36 percent increase
  • Chatham Township: 10 new cases, 614 total, 1.66 percent increase
  • Chester Borough: two new cases, 126 total, 1.61 percent increase
  • Chester Township: 15 new cases, 580 total, 2.65 percent increase
  • Denville: 18 new cases, 1,378 total, 1.32 percent increase
  • Dover: 16 new cases, 2,875 total, 0.56 percent increase
  • East Hanover: 16 new cases, 921 total, 1.77 percent increase
