MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County and New Jersey continue to see an increase in coronavirus cases, to the point where the Centers for Disease Control now recommend masking up in indoor, public spaces in most of the state. (See town-by-town data below.)

The more-contagious delta variant accounted for 80 percent of cases sequenced in New Jersey over a four-week period that ended Tuesday. The CDC sequenced 926 cases for variance to determine how much each strain has spread in New Jersey.

Morris County averaged 49.5 new cases per day over the past week after often reporting single-digit new daily cases at the beginning of July, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

But hospitalizations remain manageable. Health experts have said that the share of a hospital's total beds devoted to coronavirus cases is key to understanding the strain on its resources. A share greater than 10 percent is said to be a cause of concern.

Each Morris County hospital remained at 3.05 percent or lower in terms of inpatient beds used by confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients for the week ending Monday.
