Middle School Schedule Change to Get PTA Committee Evaluation

As interim superintendent, John Fitzsimmons has stood tall on an issue he wants to see come to fruition in Parsippany’s Central Middle School.

Fitzsimmons spent time making his pitch again on Tuesday night at the district’s board of education meeting about extending class time in the school by 10 minutes per class, according to northjersey.com.

Five 40-minute periods would become 50-minute periods, the report said, and a full student body lunchtime of 30 minutes would replace the current setup. The Parent-Teacher Association Committee will review the proposal by visiting other schools that offer the scheduling variation, the report said.

In doing so, teachers would have 25-percent more instructional time with students. 

After making its findings, the committee will give its recommendations to the board on June 1.
