Movie for all to See Morristown Library. Highlands; Yes Parsippany is part of the Highlands

Volunteers for the highlands; Parsippany BOE has refused to show this film to the children; why? Why Should Parsippany reject conformance?

This is the movie Parsippany BOE refuses to acknowledge in their educational experience. Parsippany despite their denial is part of the NJ Highlands. Below explains why its important for locals to know their immediate surroundings. Perhaps “conformance” would be more sought after; because its the right thing to do..Under conformance for example, its simple to explain how waterview would not have been a choice, or valid proposal for public housing; or any other development. Conforming municipalities are guided and protected under a MOU; memorandum of understanding between Highlands Water Protection & Council on Fair Housing; “still in effect”; preventing development of environmentally sensitive areas especially concerning ground water recharge. Waterview Landscape fell under these conditions if recognized. If we count the overwhelming grassroots public opposition, RD developer never had a chance. June 17th 2014 Parsippany rejected conformance; after being in a state of idle conformance from 2009. Funny how Parsippany’s main reason for conformance was COAH; public housing. October 2013 the Mayor promised waterview would be open space, all 26+ acres after the Council No vote on Rd’s Proposal. Simply being in conformance and placing waterview block, lot on a checklist would of done the trick; instead we were betrayed. Screening of the Documentary: “The Highlands Rediscovered”

Parsippany being in the Planning Zone of the Highlands needs to Volunteer its conformance; which encourages development; but in the right places; if needed and developers need to adhere to best management practices and highest standards possible; is that too much to ask?

The film explains how the ecological functions of the Highlands forests cleanse rain as it percolates into aquifers and ultimately into surface reservoirs. It also presents the challenges the Highlands region is faced with in retaining its important forests under pressures to develop the land.

Erica Van Auken of the New Jersey Highlands Coalition will be available following the film to answer any questions and to discuss the importance that the Highlands has to our water supply, outdoor recreation, tourist economies, and quality of life issues for all of New Jersey, and the current threats to the Highlands.
