NJSFWC Clubwomen Helping Operation Chillout

The member clubs of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC) have been busy helping Operation Chillout, New Jersey’s oldest (and only) all-volunteer mobile outreach for homeless veterans, men and women, and the 2020-2022 NJSFWC Special State Project. The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is an affiliate of NJSFWC.

The NJSFWC Clubs first supported Operation Chillout’s collection of water, t-shirts and baseball caps. Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus, shopping for the needed items was challenging, so Operation Chillout created a website registry where donors could purchase the items online from ShopRite and Amazon at cost. Women’s Club members jumped at the opportunity to shop online and have their donations shipped directly to the organization. Clubwomen also used their quarantine time to create business card sized notes to accompany the items. This project ran from Memorial Day to Labor Day and reached its goal for the number of items needed. Members of the Parsippany club donated $190 of water/hats/t-shirts and made over 400 notes as part of this effort.

In support of Operation Chillout’s winter drive, the Women’s Clubs are now collecting new hooded, zippered sweatshirts for the upcoming cold weather. If you would like to donate a large or extra-large sweatshirt, simply order it online from your favorite store and have it delivered to NJSFWC Headquarters, 55 Labor Center Way, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. You may also make a financial contribution by sending a check payable to “NJSFWC” and earmarked sweatshirt. The NJSFWC will purchase it for you. For the winter drive 40 sweatshirts were donated by members of the Parsippany Woman’s Club.

NJSFWC President Jan Hanson, said, “I’m so pleased with how our clubwomen have embraced this new project. They are always quick to respond when we ask for anything for our Veterans.”

The NJSFWC is a volunteer, community service organization founded in 1894. It is headquartered on the Douglass College campus in New Brunswick, the college that the NJSFWC founded in 1918. Last year, the organization, with a membership of over 6,300, reported almost 21,600 community service projects involving over 498,000 volunteer hours and $3.4 million in cash and in- kind donations.
