Parsippany Council Sues Mayor for Allegedly Paying Town Attorney Too Much

Long-held debate over fees paid to town's counsel coming to a head, report says.

It’s politics as usual in Parsippany.

The township’s council is at it again with the mayor, this time filing suit and claiming the municipality’s elected leader is pushing copious amounts of money toward township attorney John Inglesino.

According to nj.com, the suit says “excessive payments” are being authorized by Mayor James Barberio and given to Inglesino.

The suit itself, though, is in part brought forth by Council President Paul Carifi, Jr., who has had a long-running feud with Barberio. Carifi’s brother, James, is currently in a legal stalemate with the township for allegedly stealing nearly a million documents from the Parsippany police department when he was a captain there, the report said.

One line item in the suit claims an “outside vendor” was hired by the township attorney in an “unrelated matter” that cost $46,918, the report said. The council was only made aware of the payment in vague terms in July 2014, the report said.

The suit is asking for an outside attorney to be retained by the township to investigate the matter, the report said.
