Parsippany Man's Hand May Be Gone After Alleged Drug Device Explodes in Pocket
Victim supposedly had canister used for 'whippets' at time of explosion, report says.

A Parsippany man may lose one of his hands after an alleged drug device exploded in his pocket while he was walking in Paterson.
According to nj.com, the unnamed 28-year-old man was allegedly carrying a compressed air canister used for inhalants, but that had yet to be fully determined as an investigation is ongoing.
The man was in the area of 17th Avenue and East 25th Street when police responded to the scene, the report said. An incendiary device was ruled out almost immediately.

Police said the device may be related to “whippets,” or steel cylinders used to become intoxicated, the report said.
