Parsippany Woman's Club Walking For National Alliance for Mental Illness

Support the Woman's Club of Parsippany-Troy Hill in the NAMI WALKS Fundraiser

The Woman's Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills (WCPTH) is once again participating in NAMI WAlKS at the boardwalk in Seaside Park Saturday, May 14, 2016. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

The theme of this year's walk is "Step Forward for Our Heroes". Please join us in our efforts to raise money for the millions of people and their families who struggle with mental illness each day.

Some facts about mental illness: Mental illnesses are disorders of the brain. An ill person is not to blame; neither are family members. One in four adults and one in five teens experience mental illness in a given year; mental illnesses cause a greater burden on our economy than all cancers combined; treatment is available, but difficult for many to access due to high costs and long waiting lists; stigma too often prevents people from seeking treatment that can lead to recovery. If you know a family dealing with mental illness, please reach out. The National Alliance on Mental Illness can help! For more information on NAMI NJ – www.naminj.org .

Every two years, members of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC) throughout the state support a defined special project with fundraising, in-kind donations and public awareness campaigns. NAMI New Jersey has been the Special Project for 2014-2016, offering an extraordinary opportunity to educate all communities across the state about mental illness and its impact on individuals and families through Club activities and initiatives.

These past two years Woman's Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills has advocated for NAMI NJ by offering programs to help educate the community, receiving proclamations from Mayor Barberio, selling chocolate bars for Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome and by participating in the NAMI Walks and other projects. Last year, the Club helped to raise over $1100 from donations in the Walk at Seaside Park.
