Rain and Rising Temps Before Another Snowstorm for Parsippany This Week

March has certainly come in like a lion, and the roaring will continue this week.

Starting Tuesday afternoon, a variety of precipitation will hit the Parsippany area over the following 48 hours, including snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will hit the area beginning around 3 p.m. Tuesday and change into freezing rain and sleet before 10 p.m. The following five hours will bring freezing rain, then rain as temperatures increase to 34 by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

It will be more of the same throughout the day Wednesday, with as much as a quarter inch of rain possible as temperatures peak at 41 degrees.

As temperatures drop Wednesday, a new storm system is expected to creep in, which will bring rain and snow before 11 p.m., the weather service said. After midnight, snow is expected to blanket the area and bring between two and four inches of accumulation before the Thursday morning commute. That will be compounded by another one to three inches of possible snow Thursday morning, ending around 1 p.m.

If there’s any chance of that lion becoming a lamb as the month wears on, the weekend should show it, as long-range forecasts show mostly sunny skies with high temperatures between 37 and 40 Saturday through Monday.
