Road Flooding Possible As Parsippany Preps For Storm
A flash flood watch remains in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — Roadway flooding will remain a concern as an expected storm passes through Parsippany on Monday. Already-saturated grounds and predictions of thunderstorms indicate that the hardest-hit streams and creeks could flood, according to officials.
The National Weather Service placed Parsippany under a flash flood watch until 5 a.m. Tuesday, with rain potentially beginning around 2 p.m. Monday. The watch projects 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible through the night, possible in Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon and Middlesex Counties.
According to the township, any spots that see a storm could easy push past 2 inches of rain in an hour, with 3-5 inches attainable in a highly localized event.

"Flooding is the main headline, but some storms will contain damaging winds later today prior to activity dwindling late tonight," Parsippany Township wrote on social media.

Here's the forecast in Parsippany as of 1 p.m. Monday:
- Monday afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
- Monday night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 3am. Low around 71. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
- Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 5am. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
