Rockaway Cop Drugged Teens Before Sex, Indictment Says

The suspended Rockaway Township police officer has been accused of drugging and having sex with teenage girls, the prosecutor said.

ROCKAWAY, NJ — A suspended Rockaway Township police officer has been accused of drugging and having sex with teenage girls, Morris County Prosecutor Fredrick M. Knapp said on Friday.

Wilfredo Guzman, 40, of Rockaway, was first arrested and charged earlier this year for allegedly sexually assaulting teenagers in 2014 and 2015. On Thursday, he was charged with two counts of sexual assault, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, eight counts of official misconduct.

In a second indictment, he was charged with another two counts of official misconduct and possession of child pornography.

"Mr. Wilfredo Guzman is a devoted father and veteran police officer with an unblemished record, who has received numerous commendations for heroic acts over the years, including two for his involvement in saving the lives of young residents of Morris County," his lawyer, Tim Smith said in a statement emailed to Patch. "He is cloaked with the presumption of innocence of these allegations which are thoroughly inconsistent with his background. He is entitled to and deserving of the most vigorous of defenses. We are going to give it to him."

Guzman "engaged in acts of sexual penetration" with a girl who was between 16 and 17 years old, and a 15-year-old girl on various dates in 2014 and 2015, Knapp said.

Guzmon allegedly gave the teenage girls alcohol and prescription medication before having sex with them, Knapp said.

The official misconduct charges stem from allegedly having sex with teenagers while on duty, including in his patrol car and at the police station, the Daily Record reported.

He is also accused of letting a teen handle his service weapon, the Daily Record reported. He was suspended without pay in April 2017, and is currently released pending his trial.
