Lock Your Doors: Several Vehicles Stolen In Parsippany, Most Unlocked

With newer, high-end vehicles, suspects will check to see if the mirrors are folded in, police said.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Several vehicles in Parsippany have been stolen in the last few weeks, according to police. Most were left unlocked with the keys inside.

The suspect(s) will walk up the driveway and pull a door handle. Or — with newer, high-end vehicles — they'll look to see if the mirrors are folded in. That's because it's commonly known among criminals that luxury or high-end vehicles will fold the mirrors once the vehicle is locked, police said.

Then the suspect will attempt to steal the vehicle — usually when the keys are located inside — or steal any item they can quickly find and remove, officials said.

  • Lock your vehicle when you exit.
  • Just before going to bed, double-check that your vehicle is locked. Most vehicle burglaries occur overnight.
  • If any valuables are left in the vehicle, they should be hidden out of sight.
  • Never leave house keys and/or vehicle keys inside your vehicle when you exit. This gives a criminal easy access to stealing your vehicle or entering your house.
